Pattern: Cattails by Melissa Schaschwary
Yarn: Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool in colours 118 *mustard* and 01 *natural*
Needles: 3.75mm and 4.5mm
Mods: I added 2 extra stripes to the length of the body. I also knit slightly less than 3/4 sleeves just as a personal preference.
I had to wet block my version but if I were knitting this again I don’t think I would add the 2 extra stripes. When wet blocked it stretches quite a bit and probably would have been ok without the mod.
I can finally share one of my recent tests with you.
It was a pleasure to be able to test for Melissa again, you may recall her Downton Girl Cloche I tested last year.
Cattails is a light and breezy cardigan knit seamlessly from the top down.
Stripes make this cardigan fun and addictive to knit, at least me for they are. I just keep wanting to knit one more stripe and then before you know it I’ve stayed up waaay to late and have half the body completed. Makes for a quick test knit 😉
The bands of texture around the bottom and collar are a perfect accent and really make this design pop!
Silky Wool was definitely the perfect choice of yarn for this design. It is wonderful to knit with and creates a light weight fabric perfect for summer attire.
When choosing colours I knew immediately that I wanted mustard and cream but had a hard time finding the right shade of yellow. Melissa very kindly sent me some that she had in her stash left over from another pretty design Summer Sweet Corn. Thank you so much Melissa!
T and I spent the day at The Cove during the heatwave last week. Cattails was the perfect cardigan to throw on over my sundress when things finally started to cool down.
Melissa is kindly offering a 10% discount off the pattern on Ravelry until noon CST time July 19th with the coupon code Flip Flops.
Clam Digger is the children’s version of Cattails that I’m looking forward to making for T. Must clear off some needles first!
